Ooooooooooooooh we 'ad some fun.
This is me with a drip full of rat poison my first few days in Brasil in 1984,
being tended by the wonderful Polly MacDonald. She then worked as an outreach
worker for the hospital in Ceres, Goias, deep in the interior.
I had a fear of needles before this episode. No problem after. Ditto poisonous spiders.
The drip was treatment for a DVT that appeared after the plane journey, cunningly disguised as a cramp.
A Deep Vein Thrombosis set loose is the fastest way for a human being to die I learnt recently.
At the time of course, I employed a masseuse, which is the fastest way to set loose a Deep Vein Thrombosis.
You live and learn, eh, but sometimes only just.
Ummmm, no link, apart from Brasilness.
My regular barber in Saquarema, who is the leader of the local bloco, ( the Carnaval band)
evidenced by the stack of drums.
Eat yer heart out, Bath School of Samba!

Nasher, I don't know you'll remind me. I'm Heitor, a doctor you've met in Ceres. The curly-hair-and-glasses guy! Do you remember "that" film? Me, Bruce and someone else wrote the script and you and a friend of yours did the resto of the movie... I've sent you, in England, a tape with some songs...
I remember your DVT very well!
I'm living in Rio now and you'll always be welcome.
Heitor.
Heitor!!!! Wow!
How could I forget!
Please leave me an email address...I've wondered so many times how to get in touch!
I've been living out here in Saquarema for a couple of years.
I'm still in contact with Phil who I shot the film with, and he is still in touch with Polly, the English nurse.
I still talk about staying at your father's apartment without actually meeting him until the last day!
I keep hussling Phil to transfer the film to digital so we can all see it again.
Haven't had any more DVT's but did break my leg after getting here this time!!
Hope we can get in touch.
( My Portuguese is a bit better, but still not very good!)
Tchau Nasher XX
